I'm using MXL 991s & 990s (each for d= ifferent applications), so maybe I should put the $$ into better mics! Those mics are intended for studio recording of relatively high-level sound= s, so their output is kind of low. Not that good for nature recording. Thei= r self-noise of 20 dBA is also high for nature work. I'd also worry about h= umidity effects on a standard condensor type, take spares of electret or RF= condensor type if you're going out in the foggy foggy dew, at least until = they're proven reliable for outdoors. -Dan |
