A quick look at tapersection forum 
http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=112875.0 has some promise 
but is inconclusive.

I'd guess that the close-file and start a new file feature is not in 
the firmware, but you never know until you try it. I'd NOT try a 16GB 
stick first; I'd try 8GB. Did you check Sony for a firmware upgrade?
