Sony PCM D1 and Memory Sticks

I purchased a Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo 16 Gig to use with my PCM D1 record=
er.  The recorder only records 3 Gig of audio then stops.  Why doesn't the =
recorder use the whole 16 Gig?  Is it possible to use a Memory Stick larger=
 than 4 Gig with this recorder?
