I am now a complete believer in Sony's claim of extraordinary battery life for
the PCM-M10 recorder.

In an attempt to verify the battery life, I set the recording format to 320
kbps MP3, and pressed "record." Using the internal mics, and with the LCD
display off, the recorder ran for 29 hours! It stopped only because its 4GB
internal memory was full.

Even more amazing, this test was conducted using the 2 AA cells that I had
previously used for about 16 hours to record and play back WAV files.

Because of its very sparing use of battery power, the M10 would be an excellent
choice for an automated recording system that samples on a predetermined
schedule. The best known of these systems is the "Froglogger" series from
Bedford Technical. Paging Gene Dorcas!
