Recently the question came up as to whether the Sony PCM D50 resampled the digital input SPDIF stream, thus potentially compromising the integrity of a better external ADC & clock. In reading through the manual now all the verbiage would indicate that resampling is not occurring. Sony avoids specifically technical terminology, but they do mention that 'sync' must be established for digital recording to take place & that if sync is dropped the recording will stop. That tells me they are in fact clocking off the incoming SPDIF data stream & that no resampling is taking place. Scott Fraser |
