Say you get six hours out of a big Blue Shape, so two of those would
carry you through a 12 hour recording, with the external battery
connected at the midpoint and at the end if you need to. Carrying two
batteries for the external pack plus six rear-mount Li-ion Blueshapes
at an average of one pound each (the Blueshapes are 0.67 pound) means
that you should have enough power for three nights of recording in
eight pounds--not 45. You do need to do one change overnight. I don't
know the capacity of the batteries for the external pack, but if that
would work with a large internal battery you might be able to do 12
hours with one external and one internal battery per night and have
it auto change over, but you've had trouble with that if I recall correctly=
.
I also don't know how far you are from your vehicle, but I can't
imagine carrying a 45 pound AGM battery very far, especially at
altitude. Quarter or half mile, yes, beyond that, no...also depends
on how you carry it--I suspect you've got that figured out and aren't
using a battery-carry strap that cuts your hands.

I don't know what type of dynamic range you're trying to capture, but
the H2 is no where near as wide in that regard as the SD. If you go
for the low-level material, then you might clip the odd jet passing
over, but somehow I don't think you care <smile>.

Indeed, it is wonderful to be able to preserve these memories. I just
finished editing the memorial service--it's one of those things I'm
not sure one will listen to often, but it was helpful. With the piano
at the beginning and end -- we had a 98-year-old professional pianist
who did an excellent job.
Anyway, I'm just thinking out loud. You already have a solution that
works that you've paid for. I have been using single-cell 17670
Li-ion cells in flashlights for 5.5 years--same two cells--and
they've been recharged probably monthly, maybe more--and one is now
showing, I think, a loss of capacity. I just bought four more and
another charger that is better for the newer cells and am trying to
get away from disposable 123A lithium cells except in the car flashlights.
I've also bought some 14500 lithium cells (AA size) for a new pocket
flashlight and I've had two Dell laptop Li-ion batteries for five
years and the one I've used the most seems to have lost 30-40% of its
capacity while the less-used one seems to have most of its capacity.
I use the Dell every day to read email at various places around the house.
So, overall, I'm impressed with Li-ion, but I don't think I'd invest
in huge batteries as there is too much money in one place--the
smaller, more common batteries seem more logical and less risk in many ways=
.
