<<A double set of thick cotton socks, for instance..? >> That will certainly cut some wind rumble but at the cost of reduced high frequency response & overall sensitivity. Wind shields are by necessity acoustically transparent & work best with a dead air space between the shield & the mic. A thick sock is sort of the opposite direction you want to be going. Schoeps make several wind screens which are essentially silk pantyhose material wrapped around a framework which creates a dead air space around the capsule. You could try some different thicknesses of socks, but listen carefully to how drastically the highs are lost & how the sensitivity drops off. Maybe you can live with it & you'll certainly save some money. Scott Fraser |
