iPod as a recording device

Hi Folks, I'm new to this list. I've been following the discussions for a
while, I have learned some great tips from you already!
I'm writing you to ask if anyone ever thinked about using iPods as
recording devices. I've searched the internet for microphones for my iPod and
found out some interesting facts about the model I have (4GB nano 1st
generation). It has two input lines (pins 5 and 6 on the connector) so that is
possible to record sounds with it using a new firmware (Rockbox).
Now I'm looking for a tiny pre-amp to connect two small mics to it in a
configuration where they will work as a directional microphone. There's a
description in an issue of Elektor Magazine (UK) that describe how this works.
I have to find this on the web again...
Anyway, if someone tried this, or have any suggestion, it will be a great help
to me.
