I've used the new 8040's a few times for music; string quartet, solo  
cello & soprano Dawn Upshaw. If they work as well outdoors as they do  
indoors, these are the new nature recording heavyweights. Clarity,  
transparency, accuracy & presence were all clearly superior to the DPA  
& Schoeps mics also on those gigs. And the new Sennheisers will fit  
inside a much smaller zeppelin than the standard MKH models.
