Dynamic mics have no self-noise, just a low output level so when you turn up the preamp gain you get more preamp noise. I assume you meant "quite noisy" not quiet noisy... Why? Because they could, I suppose. No idea what they used the D900 for. Basically it is obsolete for our purposes here.
