I'd try using QT Pro first (see below). Yes, de-interleaving is not
time as consuming as bouncing, as Lou points out. The two, stereo
(front and back) recordings will play from the DVD-R/UDF simply by
clicking on them with the OS's default players.

Try it. Could be. Open the poly file in QT Pro. Examine Window Menu->
Show Movie Properties to see if all of the SoundTracks are in the
list. If this works, you might be able to effectively, de-interleave
the poly file by making two ref movies: One with the rear pair turned
off and another with the front pair turned off. The poly will
probably show as four mono tracks, adjust the pan control for each
and switch on/off tracks accordingly in the properties window. Over
to the right of the pan settings is a pull down window with all the
surround nomenclature. These pan settings should be embedded with the
ref movie. For quad playback, leave all four tracks turn on panned
accordingly. Make sure to use the "reference movie" option when
saving these reference movies.

The .mov suffix can confuse folks so I sometimes make
color-highlighted alias's of the ref files to name them more
recognizably, e.g. "20090112Merced_FrontMicsSound_05pm"

There's probably a way to create similar, reference-like documents
that will load the poly .wav content into Windows Media Player. I
know MediaPlayer handles poly files. I'm sure that can be googled-up
or maybe someone who's also on the Sursound List can direct us?

Including Windows and QT reference files on the DVD-R data disc
should make a very compatible storage package that should last many,
many years. All the user has to do is drag the folder to a hard drive
for further study. You could also include links to the free
QT/Windows download sites in the "read me" or log file on the data
discs. Rob D.
