Cheers, Hello, Robert, Welcome, I'm a newbie on this list with some of the same desires that you have, but I'm currently field recording choirs and bands -- mostly ones my sons perform in which is fun. You might wish to check out Andy Kolovos's field guide for oral histories. He's a good friend and I agree with most of what he says. He is a folklorist and not an engineer.
