XY is a coincident mic technique, which mean ideally the 2 mics should be i= n the same place! Not possible of course but as us humans have about 4 times better ability t= o discern where sounds are coming from on the horizontal plain compared to th= e vertical, mounting the mics one above the other is a very good idea. Also as the NT1's are so dam large there is some audible interference if they are mounted next to each other. So yes a stereo mounting bar can be used to mount the mics one above the other with the grills almost touching. I'm assuming you will use the supplied shock mounts, hence the small gap to let each mic wobble --- Or yo= u can use a double sided "sticky pad" as may be used to fix mirror glass. Personally I partially disassembled the Rode shock mounts by removing both= of the swivel parts -- cut an approx 6in x 5/8" x 1/10" bar of ally and bolted the 2 shock mounts either end of the bar with 1 of the 2 "swivel bits" in the centre of the bar. Just to make the rig a bit smaller & more stable. John L |
