>I left my LS-10 recording in strong sunshine for about an hour and >when I got back the display was all dark grey and un-readable. I had the same thing happen to my LS-10. I think this is a function of temperature rather than sunlight. All LCD displays have a "clearing point" temperature when the liquid used in the display changes from a nematic to an isotropic state. The result is a dark grey screen. Fortunately, once the temperature of the liquid falls, the LCD liquid switches back to its normal state. Incidentally, the LS-10 has a display that is very easy to read in sunlight under most conditions. This is not the case for other small recorders. I would rate the LS-10 and Sony PCM-D50 as having very good readability in direct sunlight, the Edirol R-09HR and Tascam DR-1 as acceptable, and the Marantz PMD60, M-Audio Microtrack II and Zoom H2 as marginal in direct sunlight. --oryoki |
