I still can't get over how large the FR-2 LE is,
when you (try to) hold it in your hand.

They could rule the market if it were half the size
(or even 2/3rds) and could still provided phantom
power and XLR connections.

As I understand it (from here at NR),
the preamps are quite good.

on that last point, I guess the point&shoot recorders
are more applicable to 1/8" mini terminated microphones,
which are more in line with the self noise - I have a
Rode SVM and Aquarian H2A that would mate well I guess,
even the Rode NTG-2 (with transformer to mini) would not
be a mismatch.

..and I guess there wouldn't be much point to matching MHK
mid-side setup with a pocket recorder.

...and as near as I can tell, there are NO single-point
stereo mics that have self-noise lower than 17 or 18 db.


All I really need is a <14db Single point mid-side stereo mic,
and a pocketable CF recorder of HiMD caliber.

Is that so much to ask?
