The R-09HR is an improvement in just about every way over the R-09.
It's a good choice for a "point and shoot" recorder.

Here are a couple of reviews

Leonard Lombardo of Sonic Studios measures the preamp performance:

Neal Ewers of Blind Cool Tech talks you through the recorder's features:

The folks at the Tapers Section forums like the R-09HR a lot for
concert recording. There are more than 500 posts discussing this
recorder on the forums.

One forum participant using the name "Digifish" uses the R-09HR with a

The R-09HR is newly released, so its street price is still a bit high.
Reputable dealers sell the R-09HR for about $370. On eBay, $325.

Other small recorders cost less. The Marantz PMD620 costs about $350
from reputable dealers, $310 from outfits you have never heard of.
The Olympus LS-10 costs about $295 from Buy.com.

The bargain at the moment is the Tascam DR-1. The DR-1, including a
4GB SDHC flash card, costs only $209 after $15 mail in rebate from B&H
Photo Video.
