Hi Rob, 

The problem with the LOW sensitivity setting (low gain) in conjunction
with the 16 bit format is that the quantisation noise is obviously not
fully masked by the K6/ME6x microphone self noise. So, once could
still perceive the quantization noise during the soft or silent
periods of a recording. It is therefore adequate to chose the 24 bit
setting when the MIC SENSE is set to LOW.
