About Greg Peterson's roadside recording with the LS-10, Rob Danielson wrote: > Says some good things about the built-in mic > stereo imaging doesn't it?! In my brief experiences with small recorders, the LS-10 stands out in the way its built-in mics produce a "wider" soundscape. Most small recorders have mics that point forward, parallel to each other. The LS-10's mic capsules, in contrast, point away from each other in a 90 degree spread. This mic configuration is good for recording ambiance, but not as good for focusing attention on one sound source as the "both mics point forward" layout. The Sony PCM-D50's mic capsules can be positioned to point inwards, in an X-Y configuration, or outwards, like the LS-10. The outward-facing position gives the D50's recordings a more open feeling as well. --oryoki |
