Nature Sounds Society is particpating/hosting several of fabulous
summer events over the next couple weeks in California. The Chapel of
the Chimes concert tomorrow night is a must-see mix of Bay Area
composers and performers; NSS is proud to be hosting its own
mini-concert within this event; and there's still room at the NSS 24th
Annual Field Workshop at Yuba Pass, coupled with a Sierra Club hosted
backpack Sunday-Monday night to record in a more remote area.

Nature Sounds Society will present nature sounds in one of the
Chapel's alcoves as part of this annual walk-through concert at the
Chapel of the Chimes on the northeast end of Piedmont Avenue in
Oakland. This annual concert features the work of more than 30
individuals and groups in a setting which enhances, amplifies and
transforms sounds in such a way as to create an aural feast of epic

Cost is $12 general, $8 for students and seniors, $5 for kids under 12
(kids under $5 free). The proceeds go to support the artists
(including the NSS).

24th Annual Field Workshop "Art and Nature Sounds"
San Francisco State University Field Station, Yuba Pass California
NSS' annual workshops always exciting speakers who work in various
arenas that incorporate nature sounds! This year, artist Billie Lea
Cox and composer Hugh Livingston will present their experiences with
art and nature sound with their recent installations, and discuss the
collaborative process of creating this kind of art. Steve Sergeant of
Wildebeat and the Sierra Club will provide a presentation on
wilderness preparation to maximize what you can take into the wild.
Martyn Stewart will be on hand to help us with learning =96 or improving
=96 our birding by ear techniques. Dan Dugan will give a workshop on
microphone directivity, and we will have our always-popular `build
your own windscreen' session. (We've got some fabulous fake fur with
which you can make a fashion statement in your screen cover). This
workshop includes an exciting mix of field activity with lecture,
hands-on equipment use, and the opportunity to mix and mingle with
folks who are interested in and do interesting things with the nature
sounds they collect.
NEW! This year, in a cooperative effort with the Sierra Club, an
overnight backpacking trip, led by Steve Sergeant, will be offered
Sunday-Monday (29-30th) for folks who are interested in recording in
an area away from mechanization and want to try out some of the
techniques they've learned about remote recording in the workshop.
