The Pocketrak 2G reference manual is available online at
http://www2.yamaha.co.jp/manual/pdf/pa/english/recorders/Pocketrak2g_en_rm_a0.pdf
Paging through the manual, one feature caught my eye. The Pocketrak
has a timer that can start and stop recording -- unattended!
You set the time to start and the duration (30 min, 60 min, 120 min,
continuous). Then you can turn the recorder off and leave! At the
scheduled time, the recorder will **turn itself on,** start recording
for the programmed duration, and then stop.
This means no more getting up at 4am to record the dawn chorus. And it
means you can place the recorder and leave, allowing normal vocalizing
to return before the recorder starts up.
Sound Devices machines have a similar scheduling capability. I'm not
aware of another portable recorder under $2000 that offers this feature.
