The audio inputs on all Macs I'm familiar with are at line level, so a prea=
mp is needed between Mic and Mac to get a usable signal. Beyond that, most =
dynamic mics have fairly low output and are generally not the first choice =
for recording low-level natural sounds like bird songs. If a high-output co=
ndensor mic could be obtained it might yield better results, but a preamp i=
s required to raise the signal to line level for all mics.
