You could use a high quality USB sound card. I use the Edirol UA25 and I'm quite happy with it. It has builtin mic pre amps. You'd have to read up on the specs to see if it's good enough for you. The only question then is how to get sufficient battery time. An other thing you could experiment with is using the Fostex as mic preamp only, and plug the line out signal from the Fostex into a low quality sound card on your computer.
