We should try to be systematic about the problems encountered since
they haven't been reported carefully or fully to program developers, I
suspect.

I've had problems (long delay/hanging) while trying to open large (>30
minutes) sound file with Audacity BETA 1.3, (Windows and Linux) but
not with the current version (1.2.4) of Audacity. The problem is worse
with .flac files than with .wav files. Very likely it'd work better if
I had a better machine (more ram, speed).

I tried wavosaur recently (after Moe's post) and had no problems
opening 30 minute files (only works with .wav, nov .flac) that were
Message: 44.
Subject: 1 KHz, but the program spaced out with a large 96KHz file.

The current bottom like is try both and PLEASE report any problems
with either to the developers --- they're always working on making
these free program better. And feedback from users is essential to
further improvements.

Cheers!
