Still holding title for low light king is the Sony VX-2000 (or VX-2100) ...not HD but top notch SD ...and can be had for reasonable cost now ...esp used. I saved up and got hold of two for night-time wildlife. Using a rock steady tripod and Rob's excellent suggestions would be hard to beat. The VX-2000 can often be rented from a media supply house. Kids would totally love that! Think I'll go set up portable sprinklers on the log piles along the river! (firefly larvae develop in rotting logs).
