I just measured the equivalent input noise of the new MicroTrack II
(see http://www.avisoft.com/recordertests.htm).
Surprisingly, the noise floor got worse compared to its predecessor
model MicroTrack 24/96!
The A-weighted EIN of the 1/4" TRS input is now about -101 dBu (it was
-115 dBu on the old model).
The 1/8" input is slightly better with -106 dBu (-109 dBu on the old
model).
It seems that this degradation has something to do with the major
change in the gain adjustment philosophy. The new model does no longer
have the L/M/H gain switch and the 27 dB TRS Boost option. The gain is
now exclusively controlled by the recording level push-buttons. This
is clearly easier to use, but obviously sacrificed the relatively good
noise performance of the previous model.
Interestingly, M-Audio does no longer publish any dynamic range
specifications for their new model. So, they probably know that these
would not be very impressive...

Raimund
