<<I want to do birdsong playbacks for my study. I will be using Marantz PMD 671 for the purpose and Saul Mineroff speaker. There are two ways of connecting the speaker to the recorder/player ' via line out and headphone socket. I will like to know the merits and demerits of each way of connecting the speaker?>> Although it is feasible to use the headphone output to drive an amplifier, it is not recommended since it is a high level amplified signal easily capable of overloading subsequent circuits. Far better to use the line out, which is a fixed level output designed specifically for driving line inputs on amplifiers. The levels will match & the impedance is optimized. Scott Fraser |
