I had good luck recording Penguins down at Simon's Town. I was there
in April, not sure how numerous they'll be in January...they might be
off the coast feeding or something.
If you do go down there be sure to eat at a restaurant called BON
APPETIT at 90 St George's St. It is superb and very reasonably priced
[for the quality]. We liked it so much we went back for a second meal
the same day.
You might have luck with birds in the Kirstenbosch Gardens since
there's such a variety of flora there. If you walk uphill [towards
the mountain] there seem to be fewer people around to make noise. Not
sure if they'd allow a Telinga inside though.
