I'd suggest 1/2-2 miles from a county trunk road, 2-6 miles from a two lane State Highway and 8-20 miles from an Interstate Highway. You'll get more distant sound abatement in locations within valleys or depressions which open away from roads/towns/factories and navigable rivers.
