Here's how I gathered information for my report:
After I learned of the Song Meter, I viewed the company's online
material, and read the Song Meter's published documentation. This led
to a few questions. So I contacted the Wildlife Acoustics people for
clarification. (They responded on Friday night. Sometimes working
with a small company has advantages.)
I have a colleague who uses equipment that can make unattended audio
recordings. I corresponded with him about the Song Meter, and it
turns out that he already has hands-on experience with this new
gadget. He shared his experiences with the Song Meter and similar
products.
With this background, I posted my report.
Like I said in the original post, the next step is to acquire a Song
Meter and see how its recordings sound. I have a Marantz PMD660 to
compare with the Song Meter, so I should be able to provide some
informed opinion about the preamp performance.
I'm happy to make the necessary arrangements if others want to have a
look at this interesting new product.
