Absolutely well said, Kevin, i could agree more.
For me recording is not only my livelihood it is also my passion,
when i work i travel to locations to capture sounds and soundscapes,
when i relax i go out recording. Since i was a kid of 11 years of
age, i have captured the natural soundscape and the beauty of
recording is that you do not destroy your intended subject.
i can walk into any habitat, capture it and walk away knowing that
what i have captured on tape/disk/hard-drive has not affected the
environment i was in at the time.
I have recorded habitats that no longer exist and they are there
sitting in my archive for anyone who needs them, freely, to now think
that this administration is ready to regulate what i do is
preposterous! As you stated, you already pay for park admission, what
physical harm can taking a recording of framing a picture have on the
very land i stand on? I agree with Bernie, we should march into a
park somewhere in great numbers with our equipment held high and
voice our concerns.
We are two steps away from being charged to breathe in these areas!!
Recording is an art, my home is filled with the voices of the natural
world constantly, i very seldom listen to music.
Having just recorded the natural soundscapes in Katmai NP, I was
amazed at the anthrophony in and around Brooks camp. It was an
infringement of the natural soundscape, Float planes come in and out
by the hour constantly. yet there are no regulations to the extent of
this. In fact at the moment there is a "no take off" protocol when a
bear is 100 yards from any plane. This is now being challenged to
bring the distance down to 50 yards. The noise is unbearable yet they
want to regulate me recording!!!
I digress a little but what a joke!! Did someone say i lived in a
free country or have i been taking too much lunesta!
Off my confused soap box....
