The unit that would ideally suit your needs would be the Sound Devices MixP=
re:

http://www.sounddevices.com/products/mx2master.htm

This seems to cost around $665 in the US from B H PhotoVideo.

At the other end of the scale you could go for an Art Phantom II phantom po=
wer supply:

http://www.artproaudio.com/products.asp?id=3D69&cat=3D13&type=3D90

Around $39 from BH PhotoVideo

And something like the FEL battery pre amp:

http://www.felmicamps.co.uk/products/felbattpreamp.html

Which costs =A3100, which would probably equate to approximately $200 makin=
g for a total cost of $239.

One thing to watch is that there are some battery powered pre-amps out ther=
e that say they offer 48 volt phantom power but in reality fall short. Now =
depending on the microphones you are using that could be important as some =
microphones do need the 48 volts to function correctly. The Art Phantom II =
and a similar box made by Rolls, the PB223, have got good reviews from many=
 that use them.

Phil

has anyone used or know of this mic pre. I have seen references to
this unit but a search has not turned up much information. Anyway
maybe someone could refer me a portable pro quality 2channel XLR mic
preamp with 48v phantom with the ability to bypass any onboard A/D
converters and that won't break the bank or is that part impossible?
