I'm a big fan of that unscrewingsound, and the War of the Worlds
Mercury Theater production. Used to play it every Halloween, and it
got interesting expressions on the faces of trick or treaters at the
door.

Two things - I believe Welles was not generous with giving credits,
but as producer it is common to take the credit for the contents of a
production. Not fair, but real.

second: would live radio sound effects be called Foley? I'd thing
"foley" refers specifically to sound to match visual, and radio
having much better pictures than movies or TV they are Sound Effects,
not foley...

Sorry to quibble but let's keep our audio pure! Some of my favorite
sound creators and designers work in film but I never hear their work
as I don't go to see cartoons... or blockbuster commercial movies...
