David,
The Rode NT1-A's I use are very sensitive to wind. I have great success
with some 1" long hair, fake fur from big4fabrics on Ebay for my
windscreen set-up. I found about a 5dB loss at higher than 15Khz, which
isn't anything to worry about. I tested some fleece and found, at least
the type I used, that it had a worse frequency response. I use a three
stage windscreen (foam, 1-inch hair, 1/2-inch hair), with air gaps. The
set-up works perfect up to 20MPH winds. My tripod blew over before I
had a wind problem. I did end up snipping the outer fur to a 1/2 inch
because the wind blowing on the 1 inch fur sounded like wind blowing
through tall grass. I never had as much luck with any other set-up.
Material selection is just as important as the windscreen design.
Adding stages with air gaps really works wonders.
