Yes 8 extra bits of data more than the 16 bit version has, I wasn't talking=
about actual steps I was keeping it in 'simple terms'. It was implied in m=
y saying that 16 1's was equal to 24 1's therefore the extra bits would nat=
urally fall in the 2^16 and 2^24 range.

I suspect it's far more than 8 bits as that would imply 2^8 =3D 256
additional "steps", whereas the actual difference is between 2^16 =3D
65,536 and 2^24 =3D 16,777,216.
