Thanks everyone for your compliments!
Rob,
After consulting my Stokes CD (thanks Lang!) I think you are right
that the trilly, drippy call is that of the brown-headed cowbird.
The recording I posted is a stereo recording, the two channels were
simply extracted from the quad recording, no mixing involved. A low
frequency rolloff and a little off the top so get rid of a some "air".
The DPA 4006 mics were spaced at about 1 meter.
Signal chain: DPA mics > Grace LunatecV3 >(digi)> SD744.
The Grace was wide open.
All personal preferences.
The other two channels in the quad setup that were not represented
here was an M-S pair of Schoeps.
Klas,
I didn't spend a lot of time trying to balance the recording, it is
presented "as is", an ambient recording. It is easier for me to
balance a stereo recording in the field than a quad mic array, in this
case the gregga array
(http://www.gregweddig.net/images/gregga_array.jpg) in short, a mic
mount I build for four mics. This photo is from 2004, not my
recording the other morning.
As far as downloading the recording, you can tell your web browser to
use whatever program you like to open the MP3 files, with Firefox it's
under Tools/Options.../Content/File Types..., then select MP3 and
choose what program you would like to open the files. Easier yet
right click on the link, select "save file as" and download.
No scientific reasons here other than personal experimentation, my
omni's don't seem to get out as much as other mics in the it so I
decided to give them a chance, I was very pleased.
