Hi all:

Gear talk:

I am in the market for a really good hard disk or compact flash recorder, t=
hat i can use
with great mics and have it not be a limiting factor. I currently use a So=
und Devices MP-2
preamp/ stereo mixer with a compact DAT machine, per some advice I read in =
Bernie
Krause's book. My mics are currently my limiting factor I think, by far.

I have read many people gushing over the Fostex FR-2LE, and below and appen=
ded here,
about its preamp.

How would its preamp and other sonic qualities compare to the Sound Devices=
 722, which
I am currently considering? Any thoughts?

If I were to drop $2000 tp $3000 on a recording device, what is the best ba=
ng for the
buck? Ideas? Anyone want to do some vicarious shopping? I may even go fo=
ur track so I
can get into muti-micing like a Soundman or the new Core tetramic.

I am also in the market for a step up in microphones. I like stereo, and a=
m currently
thinking of moving away from MS and getting into AB or perhaps XY. MS is g=
ood for close
things, like close ups of herps, but I don't think it is all that great for=
 large scale ecosystem
sound.

Any thoughts on a) which technique is better for subtle stereo ecosystem so=
unds and b),
which mics are the best?

I have been corresponding with another member about AB and he is himself de=
bating
between DPA compact omni mics, and the Sennheiser omnis.

Thanks for your advice!

George Paul
