The story
Seven recordists here had a long nights discussion on sound
"quality". All people displayed their individual problems, aims and
opinions. As the discussion went on, it became more and more obvious
to everyone that we would never come to some kind of "conclusion".
Then someone said that "microphones are not ears." Another one smiled
and said that "loudspeakers are not a string quartet" and another one
filled in with "and my studio is not Metropolitan".
We all laughed and that was the end of a, anyway, impossible discussion.
I wrote it down at a posting at this list, only a bit modified. I
don't remember why. It connected to something else, I
guess....explaining something which is difficult to pinpoint.
As I recall it, Doug was contacted by someone who thought that my
lines were somewhat "poetic" or something. Doug asked me if I allowed
it to end all postings.
I said okay, why not.
