Hi Bernie
The Sony MZ-RH1 is pretty good have a look here:
http://www.wildlife-sound.org/equipment/himd/rh1.html
Also have look here:
http://www.uwm.edu/~type/audio-reports/HiMD/index.htm
Rob has also done a very good comparison of Hi-MD and
some other options here:
http://www.uwm.edu/~type/audio-art-tech-gallery/mediafiles/MicroTrack_NH900=
_722Compare2.mov
You will need QuickTime installed for the above.
The cheaper compact flash recorders tend to be
disappointing as regards their mic amps.
There is on the horizon the Fostex FR2-LE which looks
promising and should hit the stores anytime soon.
Hopefully there will be an in-depth test soon once
available.
As regards 'easily calibrated inputs' what exactly do
you want / mean by that?
Hope the above helps.
Phil
