I own and sometimes use a CMS 7s. It has a seperate Matrix box, with variab=
le width and polar diagrams selectable, and XLR outputs to the recorder.
The mic can be configured to give MS or AB outputs. It is powerable by 4 AA=
 batteies or phantom.
The connection cable is peculiar to the mic, having 7pin XLR's at each end.=
This will usually mean the control box being near the microphone and not r=
emote from it.

I understand the CMS 9 not to have the external matrix control box, so it w=
ill be a bit more portable for location work.
It has fixed MS or AB outputs, but is connected with a standard 5 pin stere=
o XLR cable, familar to recordists who use 60/30 pairs.

In my opinion, the CMS 7s is too noisy for natural history acquisition, but=
is a nice mic for other location recording where there's more signal.
I like the mic for choirs and cars !!
