My coworkers have both the 7 and the 9, and we've used them on occasion. They're nice sounding mics. I think the general consensus is they might be a bit too noisy for quiet nature sound use. But they're supposedly quite dependable mics as well. One of them requires the use of an external MS box I think, but I can never keep straight the differences between the 7 and 9. I think for the price, I'd go the Sennheiser MKH setup, which I don't think would cost that much more.
