The frogs seem to be taking advantage of another noise obscuring them to co=
mmunicate more loudly. I have recorded this a number of times, and once wi=
th a Common Nighthawk making it's characteristic "whoosh" sound (it's usual=
ly described as a roar, but I don't hear a roar!). The frogs will synchron=
ize with a louder sound, as it masks individual sounds at longer range - th=
e frogs can still communicate over shorter range.
Can't remember where I read this, after I noticed it with the Nighthawk I d=
id a literature search and found this. I'm sure the pros will wiegh in wit=
h proper detail!
