Flash memory maker Sandisk recently announced a new product: write-once flash memory. Called One-Time-Programmable (OTP) memory, the new technology is expected to be much cheaper per gigabyte than current re-writable flash memory products. OTP products will retain the recorded data for an estimated 100 years, far more than the 10 years for current Compactflash and SD memory products. If the price is low enough, OTP will provide an interesting alternative to re-usable memory products. Sandisk expects to start shipping OTP memory products later this year.
