The maps I had there were a unpublished set of compilations of
contributions from herp folks across the country. As such it was raw
data, but pretty accurate. I had a copy because I'm a contributer. The
project has continued and is available in it's current smoothed up form
online here:
http://www.pwrc.usgs.gov/armiatlas/

At the time I contributed it was the most complete and up to date
compilation available. Probably still the case on a USA wide basis. New
data I might generate now gets into it via the GA DNR. But I'm not sure
how up to date they keep it. It's not under the original project which
had a goal of staying current.

You'd have to look in mammology stuff for that. If you locate a similar
project for mammals (or reptiles) I'd like to know about it. I've not
really hunted for one.
