However, this works pretty well unbalanced even with longish leads 
using a short adapter lead of the type you indicate from the phantom 
power box to the MD. I use a NH700 with MKH30/40 and terminate 
unbalanced on the HiMD. I guess nature recordists aren't usually in 
areas of intense electrical activity. You probably wouldn't get away 
with it next to a whole bunch of lighting dimmers...
