Human ultra- and infra-sound tech

Subject: Human ultra- and infra-sound tech

Several years ago, I was commissioned to create a soundscape
depicting all 33ft. (10m) of the human alimentary canal.

Someone, in an offhand remark one night, suggested that I encapsulate
a tiny wireless mic, swallow it and record the results as it traveled
hither. While the mic was neither ultra- or infra-sonic in range, the
results could be found in a temporary museum display for kids that
stretched horizontally at eye level (for 10 year olds) around three
walls of the exhibit. At several stations along the wall display,
(the mouth, the stomach, small intestines, large intestines,
components of the colon, and butt hole) speakers were mounted that
projected the sounds from those locations. It was, needless to say, a
big hit for the kids, and a bit puzzling for adults who had to endure
gales of laughter from their respective offspring.

Unfortunately, the signal became silent. The mic was expelled and not
traceable either in our old plumbing system in the house or anywhere
we could find in the Pacific Ocean sewage outlet just south of San
Francisco. We ultimately gave up the search. But it was a terrific
soundscape - especially the duodunem. If I had it, I'd be delighted
to provide. But alas, Harry...

Anyway, you might think about that as a possibility if it ain't too
scatalogical for the eastern side of the pond. While there was a
publication about a dozen years ago in the Journal of the American
Medical Association (JAMA) that identified the eyes are sensing audio
signals as high as 60kHz, and while certainly the viscera can sense
signals around the 15kHz range, the human body, itself, isn't exactly
known for emitting signals much above or below what we can typically
hear.
