Most of the pocketable preamps have XLR or mini-XLR inputs, and they
provide 48V phantom power.

Three preamp models have two channels, 3.5mm mini-jack input, and
provide 9V Plug-In Power:

Chris Church ST-9000 ($150)

Sound Professionals SP-Preamp ($180)

Felmicamps Battery Preamp ($200)
www.felmicamps.co.uk/products/felbattpreamp.html

For nature recording, the Sound Professionals and Felmicamps models
would be preferred because they offer a maximum preamp gain of 50 to
55 dB. The Chris Church preamp has a maximum gain of 40 dB.
