I know of one location sound recordist, Steven Feld, who uses AKG
460's. I come across posts where recordists regard the 480's as a
less desirable replacement. 460's and 480's are not as quiet as many
of the mics we discuss, but Steven records fairly robust environments
and sounds. If you're leaning modular, look at Schoeps-- in the same
price range as Senns.

Buying a pair of expensive mics is a tough decision to make even with
a pair of mics to listen to. Listening to several pair can help you
feel more comfortable. A _good_ dealer, knowing you are willing to
spend up to $2000 USD for mics that meet you needs, should be able to
figure out how to get at least one pair for you to test drive. I'm
not saying good dealers are easy to find, but there are some. Rob D
