I had a correspondence with a manager of a stuffed animal factory on
this. He was of the opinion that rycote and sennheiser were using off
the shelf designs. Certainly no problem to duplicate.
I usually just go through the fur at the local fabric stores and from
time to time find pretty good stuff that way. I look for stretch, hold
it up to the light to see how open it is, and listen through it. Long,
irregular soft fur with no underfur is what I look for.

I have a couple camo green fur covers, though with shorter fur. I'm not
sure about them blending in everywhere, most places they stand out. The
fur I have that's blends of brown/tan seems to be the best at blending
in a wide range of habitats. Definitely avoid the darker colors that
accumulate more heat if the rig is in the sun. I have a feeling the
black tips might not be desirable.
I have some official rycote and sennheiser material if you need it for
comparison. Sennheiser seems to have longer fur than rycote, at least
in the particular ones I'm using right now. The fur should ideally be
irregular in length as well as long.
I agree on stretch, it's hard to find fur with bi-directional stretch,
but highly desirable.
Note that rycote currently line their covers with nylon taffeta or
something similar. Kind of negates the open backing. Seems to work,
however. The lined covers are a lot easier to slip on.

I also would be interested in getting in on a order. Any idea what the
price would be like?
