recently a Sound Devices 442 was listed on ebay. I bid on it until
prices soared above $1500. eventually the piece went for $2600.
there were 8 or 9 bidders who 'outbid' my highest bid.

soon after the auction ended, I started receiving very legitimate
looking emails (including ebay logo, etc.) which said that the high
bidder was not to be found, and asking if I was interested in the

the emails claimed to be legitimate, and looked to be so. At this
point, I have gotten three of them, each with a seemingly different
email address to which I should address my interest in the piece.
the latest gave me a 5 day period in which to make a decision.

I am writing here to warn others given that this scam looks quite
legitimate, and that the rather pricey items purchased by this group
might be targets in the future.

a simple look at the feedback left by both the buyer and seller
confirms that this was a scam.

caveat emptor,
