I have been using DIY Permethrin on my external field clothes, well dried,=
for nearly ten years. The only negative effects I've found in the
literature is "not good for cats." In the NJ Pine Barrens I have actually
watched Lone Star Ticks crawling up my pants, stop, pause, then fall
off. And this year the lyme disease-ridden deer ticks hit southern NH with=
a vengeance, and "they" have now reduced the attachment minimum to 12 hours=
(The CDC used to say Lyme could not be transmitted in less than 48 hours of=
actual tick-attachment!).
It was used for decades to spray lumber cut ends to keep out borrers. It is=
now also being widely used to make tropical mosquito netting (over beds)
much more effective, and for head lice directly on human hair.
